School Finder

Check if an address is in a government school’s local enrolment area (catchment). See nearby schools with Yes / No / No data / N/A where official data is available.

Years 1–6 use primary catchments; Years 7–12 use secondary catchments (also called local enrolment areas; some states officially say school zones).

Compare selected schools

Select 2–4 schools to compare enrolments, Indigenous %, and SEA mix.

Understanding the data

These figures come from the national ACARA school profile. They help you compare a few relevant schools after the Local Enrolment Area answer is clear. They are not a ranking and not enrolment advice.

  • ICSEA Percentile. ICSEA percentile describes the socio-educational context of the school community compared with other Australian schools. A higher percentile is not “a better school.”
  • Attendance. Attendance is the share of students attending on a typical day in the labelled year. Missing values show as No data.
  • LBOTE. LBOTE is the share of students with a language background other than English.
  • Total enrolments. Total enrolments is school size. Size bands (smaller / mid / larger) are only relative to the schools you compare — not a national rank.
  • Indigenous enrolments %. Indigenous enrolments % is community context, shown in neutral wording.
  • SEA quarter mix. SEA quarters show the mix of socio-educational advantage in the school community (bottom through top quarters).

Ideal Home is not a school ratings database. Default order is Local Enrolment Area Yes first, then distance.

Confirm with the school: Local Enrolment Area results are a first-pass match against published catchment data. Enrolment rights, capacity, and policies vary — always confirm with the school and department before relying on a result. Something look wrong? Send feedback (optional — helps us improve).
Map (optional)

Map stays off by default

Core results and Local Enrolment Area status above already work. Map and address autocomplete use paid Google features — enable them from the form if you want the map.

Optional: log in to load the map and address autocomplete (paid Google features). Core school and catchment results above work without a map.

Understanding the Data

Local Enrolment Area: For government schools, whether this address falls inside the school’s published catchment (also called intake area or school zone in some states). Yes = inside · No = outside · No data = catchment data unavailable for this state/year · N/A = non-government (does not apply). This is address-to-area matching only — always confirm enrolment with the school and department.

Metrics empty labels: For ICSEA percentile, attendance, LBOTE, and FOEI, missing values show as No data (we do not have that figure). N/A is reserved for Local Enrolment Area on non-government schools, and for program flags that do not apply (e.g. selective / opportunity class).

FOEI: Family Occupation and Education Index — a school-level measure of educational disadvantage (higher = more disadvantage). Used as the basis of equity loading for socio-economic background in the NSW Department’s Resource Allocation Model.

LBOTE: Percentage of students at the school who speak a language other than English at home.

ICSEA: Index of Community Socio-Educational Advantage. Built from parental education and occupation, school location, and the proportion of Indigenous students — higher generally means more socio-educational advantage.

ICSEA Percentile: Where the school’s ICSEA sits nationally (e.g. 80th percentile = higher than about 80% of schools).
